Home Learning

At the start of each term your child will bring home a Home Learning pack that the teachers at Walnut Tree Walk have created to match the curriculum taught at this school.

These are also available to view and download via the links in the section menu. The aim of these packs is to provide resources and activities for you to work on with your child at home if you wish to do so.

Each booklet has been designed to complement the work your child will be doing in class and to give opportunities for discussion about their topic this term.

Inside the booklet you will find a number of Home Learning Projects as well as an overview of your child’s topic, suggested places to visit for the topic, an overview of the term’s Literacy and Numeracy work, and useful websites for your child to look at if they have access to a computer.

Your child is welcome to share the work they have completed at home with their teacher and class, but it will not be formally marked.

In addition to the booklet your child will receive a number of maths resources to support their learning, appropriate to your child’s age (such as place value charts, doubles, times tables sheets etc).

At the back of the booklet are a list of some suggested websites. Some are specific to your child’s topic, but some are Literacy and Maths-based and can be used for all year groups. These include the following:

IXL ( https://uk.ixl.com ) – This has really good maths activities (and Literacy for Year 3 and above). No password is needed for this site.

In addition to the Home Learning tasks in the booklets, the year 5 and 6 children will be set homework using IXL, which is an internet-based programme. At the start of the week on the ‘What we are doing in class’ newsletter that we send home we will state the specific areas of maths and grammar that we would like your child to work on. These tasks will also be marked with a gold star when the children log on so they know which tasks to complete.

The website address is https://uk.ixl.com and your child will be given a username and password to use.

Each week they will be expected to spend two or three 30 minute sessions on the directed Maths tasks or grammar tasks (so one and a half hours in total).

We hope you find these resources useful. If you have any questions regarding these packs, please come and see one of us at any time.
