Essential School Information

The School Day

Our Early YearsKS1 and KS2 start at 8:55am and finish at 3:30pm

All children are in school for a total of 32 hours and 55 minutes per week.

All children in Years 1 to 6 will enter via the Fitzalan Street gate. Year 1 to 6 parents will not come in the playground in the morning as the current arrangement is working very well and allowing the school day to start promptly.

Nursery parents will come through the playground so that the children can be handed to the Nursery staff team. Reception children will enter via the Walnut Tree Walk gate.

For the first week of the autumn term, parents can come into the playground, but from week 2 onwards they should be able to come through the gate and line up with their teachers.

If Reception children have siblings, they can enter via the Walnut Tree Walk gate and then walk through the playground past the school building to line up.

The school gates will open at 8:45am each morning.

At the end of the day, all parents can enter the playground to collect their children. Reception parents, please use the Walnut Tree Walk gate.

You can then either leave through the same gate or walk around to the other side and leave through the Fitzalan Street gate.

We ask that parents in other year groups only use the Fitzalan Street gate.

If a different adult is collecting a child at home time, the school office or class teacher must be informed at the start of the day.

If a child goes to After School Club, a member of staff will collect them and take them to the After School Club rooms.

Breakfast and After School Club

If you are a working parent and need additional childcare, we run a breakfast club from 8am each morning and an after school club until 5:45pm. These are open to children of all ages.

The current daily prices for these are:

Breakfast Club: £3
After School Club: £10 (or £5 if picked up before 4:30pm)

All bookings must be made at least 7 days in advance using our Scopay online system. Any short notice booking enquiries must be telephoned via the school office and can not be guaranteed.

Once you book, you are committed to paying for that session. In order to book a session in either club, you must be in credit on your Scopay account for the amount you are requesting. The exception for this is if you pay for these clubs through one of the following child care voucher schemes we have in place: Kiddiecare, Edenred and the Government Tax-free childcare.

If you do not have your Scopay login details please contact Nicole at nlightfoot@wtwschool.co.uk

Attendance and Punctuality

It is really important for children’s intellectual and social development that they attend school regularly and on time.

The school will do all it can to ensure maximum attendance for all pupils and reduce absence, including persistent absence.

Parents have a vital role to play in ensuring that pupils attend school regularly and on time. Individual parents will be contacted immediately if concerns arise over their child’s attendance or punctuality with a view to resolving any problems that may have arisen.

If a child is going to be absent, the parent or carer must contact the school before 8:30 am  by telephoning the office, notifying us of the reason.

If you are late bringing your child to school, please ring the buzzer at the Fitzalan Street gate and then bring your child to the main office.

You will then need to register your child on the electronic sign in system in the office, giving your reasons for being late.

Please note if your child is in Reception class and arrives late, you will not be able to come in through the Walnut Tree Walk gate and will need to walk around to the Fitzalan Street gate and go to the office.

Please note that if your child comes in later than 9:30am (and you have not phoned the school in advance to let us know), you will need to provide a packed lunch.

This is because the kitchen are notified of the dinner numbers each morning at that time.

We will not authorise holidays during term time. If you need time out for exceptional circumstances, this must be requested in writing to the Headteacher.

Please click here for the school’s Attendance Policy.

Lunches and Snacks

All children in Reception to Year 6 are now entitled to a free school meal as part of the Mayor of London’s scheme. We hope that everyone takes up this offer.

A reminder that we are a water-only school now. As with the children who have school dinners, packed lunches should also only contain water as a drink.

We promote healthy eating so please try to provide packed lunches with this in mind e.g. savoury/sandwich, fruit, yoghurt and water/fruit juice. No sweets or fizzy drinks.

Please click here for the school’s Packed Lunch Policy.

At morning break time, we provide milk and fruit for all Early Years children to have. Key Stage One and Two children also receive a free piece of fruit.

We encourage children to drink lots of water throughout the day so recommend that they have a water bottle in school. These can be bought from the school office for £1.50.

PE

The children will have PE sessions during the school day. For these sessions they must wear a green t-shirt which can be bought from the school office for £3, with black or navy shorts or jogging bottoms plus trainers.

All PE clothes should be labelled with the child’s name as they can easily get muddled up.

Contact Details

We must have up-to-date information about parents’ names, addresses and phone numbers. If the information you give us changes in any way throughout the year, then please let us know straight away. We must also have at least two other emergency contacts which can be a relative or friend.

We often contact parents using ParentComms, a text messaging service, using the contact details you give us on your registration form. We encourage parents to download the ParentComms app.

Clothing

We do not have a school uniform but it is important that children are dressed in clothing that is appropriate for practical and sometimes messy activities as well as being age appropriate.

Children must always be wearing footwear that is suitable for PE or physical activities so trainers are ideal. No crocs or flip flops please.

We do advise that parents write or sew their children's names on to their clothing as we have an enormous amount of lost property each term.

For Health and Safety reasons, please no jewellery, as accidents can happen.

Smart watches such as Apple Watches or any watch that can send/receive messages or that can take photos are not allowed at any time.

We do not allow the wearing of any type of makeup or nail varnish.

Accidents

Minor cuts and bruises are dealt with in school and parents will be informed by letter if a child has a minor accident during the day. If anything more serious happens, including if a head injury, we let the parent or carer know straight away which is why we need an up-to-date record of contact numbers.

Statutory Financial Info

Schools are now requested to display the number of staff earning over £100,000. No member of staff at Walnut Tree Walk earns that amount.
